Ken Wolff - President & Cofounder
Ruby Wolff - Secretary & Cofounder
Ken and Ruby Wolff have been married since 1999, after meeting at the Allan Hancock College Police Academy. Together, they've built a life centered on faith, family, and service, raising three children and calling the Central Coast of California home. They never imagined that the greatest challenge of their lives would one day become their greatest calling.
For decades, Ken and Ruby served their communities in law enforcement, experiencing both the fulfillment of serving others and the unseen weight that so often comes with a career in public safety. Ken began his career with the Lompoc Police Department before lateraling to the Santa Maria Police Department and ultimately retiring from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office. He worked in patrol, investigations, was a field training officer, bailiff, and Court Services Supervisor. Outside of law enforcement, he coached high school football for many years and later became a leader with the Mighty Oaks organization, supporting first responders in their pursuit of resilience, healing, and renewed purpose.
Ruby served with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office in patrol before becoming a detective specializing in crimes against children and sexual assault investigations. After years of carrying the weight of other people's trauma, she found herself facing a battle she never expected — the cumulative stress of her career eventually led to a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress. As Ruby struggled to understand what was happening to her, Ken became her first responder, helping her find the support she needed. That decision marked the beginning of a healing journey they would walk together, and what began as the hardest season of their lives became the foundation of their calling.
Through faith, a commitment to learning, practical tools, and unwavering support for one another, Ken and Ruby discovered that healing is not only possible, it is attainable. That journey became the foundation for Behind That Badge.
Today, Ruby is a trauma-informed identity coach and law enforcement chaplain. She helps people move beyond survival mode by rediscovering their identity, purpose, and hope. Together, Ken and Ruby are speakers, passionate about caring for the person behind the badge, providing education, peer support, wellness training, and practical resources that strengthen first responders, their spouses, and their families — including leading a REBOOT First Responders course for first responders and their spouses.
Their passion for healing also extends through music. Through 911 Project Harmony, Ken co-wrote the song "Behind That Badge" with Joseph Pfeifer, reflecting the heart behind the organization's mission. Ruby co-wrote "Never Forsaken" with Scott Dorman, a deeply personal song telling the story of God's faithfulness through her own journey from trauma to healing.
Today, their greatest joy is watching lives transformed. They believe healing is possible, hope is stronger than trauma, and that God can redeem even life's most difficult experiences for a greater purpose.

Josh Peet - Vice President
Josh Peet is a retired Deputy Sheriff with 18 years of service in law enforcement, serving in Custody, Patrol, K-9, and Narcotics. Following his career in public safety, he now focuses on his faith, family, and serving his community.
Josh and his wife, April, own and operate a short-term rental property management and hospitality company. Together, they enjoy building their business while raising their daughters, Ellis and Hadley, and spending countless hours coaching and supporting their softball activities. After navigating the challenges of cumulative job-related trauma, Josh found healing through his faith, the unwavering support of his family, and organizations such as Mighty Oaks and At Ease Project Harmony. His personal journey has given him a deep passion for supporting the wellness of first responders and their families. When he's not working, Josh enjoys golfing, playing pickleball, staying active in the Atascadero community, and cheering on his daughters in everything they do. Josh currently serves as the Vice President of Behind That Badge.
David Jess - Treasurer
David Jess serves as Treasurer for Behind That Badge, bringing more than 30 years of law enforcement experience and leadership. Throughout his career in Minnesota, he served in nearly every facet of law enforcement, rising through the ranks from patrol officer to Chief of Police.
Following his retirement, David and his wife, Kelly—a fellow retired law enforcement officer—relocated to the Central Coast of California, where Kelly was raised. Together, they have embraced this new season of life by staying active through OrangeTheory Fitness, kayaking, hiking, pickleball, traveling, and making treasured memories with their three grandchildren.
David's heart for serving others did not end with retirement. As Treasurer of Behind That Badge, he continues to invest his leadership, wisdom, and experience in advancing the organization's mission to support first responders and their families.
Sara Craft - General Board Member
Sara Craft is a wife, mother, business owner, trauma-informed yoga instructor, and Licensed Psychiatric Technician (Mental Health Nurse) with the County of San Luis Obispo. Since joining the County in 2015, Sara has dedicated her career to serving individuals experiencing mental health challenges. She currently works at the County's outpatient behavioral health clinic in San Luis Obispo while also serving on a field services van as a collateral assignment. In this role, she partners with the Medical Director to provide outreach and mental health services at 40 Prado Homeless Services Center, in addition to managing a full outpatient caseload. Sara also serves on the Atascadero Police Department's Peer Support Team and was instrumental in helping establish the Community Action Team (CAT), a collaborative program that brought together first responder agencies throughout San Luis Obispo County. Through CAT, she worked alongside the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office, Atascadero Police Department, and Paso Robles Police Department, responding to major incidents, mental health crises, crisis interventions, and calls involving the unhoused community. Sara's unique blend of clinical expertise, trauma-informed care, and firsthand experience collaborating with first responders brings invaluable insight to Behind That Badge's mission of supporting the wellness and resilience of first responders and their families. Sara is serves on our board as a General Member.
